I’m going to be honest. One of the main reasons True Born made it onto my TBR list on Goodreads was because of the cover. Have you looked at it?! It’s so beautiful!
I have to start off with saying that it’s been awhile since I’ve read a Dystopian novel. Why? Because I typically don’t have good luck when it comes to finding an enjoyable YA Dystopia read. At first I found True Born to be complex/hard to read and follow. The world building was hard to follow and at times I found myself flipping back a couple of pages every now and then to make sure I understood what was happening. True Born seemed to meet every requirement for your typical dystopia read, but L.E. Sterling’s writing style makes the story so unique.
I enjoyed the characters in True Born, although I did have a hard time connecting with Lucy at times, which is unfortunate seeing as the book seems to be told from her perspective. I found her character to be very annoying but she eventually grew on me! There were a lot of character names throughout the book and I struggled to keep track of who was who and who was important. Of course there is some romance thrown in mix, which to me felt a little like insta-love, but I’m curious to see where things will go.
Will I continue with this series? Yes. Do I recommended it? Yep! If you’re a dystopian lover, I’m 100% sure you’ll enjoy True Born. I’m really excited to see where the series has in store and how the story will play out. While readers aren’t left with a massive cliffhanger I’m still impatiently waiting for the next book to see what comes next!

Sterling had an early obsession with sci-fi, fantasy and romance to which she remained faithful even through an M.A. in Creative Writing and a PhD in English Literature – where she completed a thesis on magical representation. She is the author of two previous novels, the cult hit Y/A novel The Originals (under pen name L.E. Vollick), dubbed “the Catcher in the Rye of a new generation” by one reviewer, and the urban fantasy Pluto’s Gate.
Originally hailing from Parry Sound, Ontario, L.E. spent most of her summers roaming across Canada in a van with her father, a hippie musician, her brothers and an occasional stray mutt – inspiring her writing career. She currently lives in Toronto, Ontario.

The cover is really eerie! I’ve been seeing it around recently, but haven’t really looked into it… I’m glad to hear that it was overall a good read, and now I might consider picking it up.
